With the new year, comes the new blog, and the resolution to keep it updated and pretty. Hopefully I will have enough news to post to keep this updated regularly.
At the rate of the last few months, it seems like it will. Here’s to hoping.
The first major piece of news is that in November, I set off on the NaNoWriMo project. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month which is a nicely organized event where you frantically scramble to 50,000+ words in 30 days. I may not have reached the 50,000 marker, but it wasn’t due to a lack of motivation. The novel ended sooner than I had anticipated, somewhere around 40,000, about five days before the event ended. Even though I didn’t “win” NaNoWriMo, I was able to complete the first draft of my first novel. It felt good. And for the most part, I actually like what I have on the page. Edits soon to come.
Next up on the list, I’ve been applying to MFA programs. I decided on the poetry concentration, since it’s the medium I feel most comfortable in, and I feel like I produce more compelling work in poetry than fiction. Sometime around March, I should have another news update.
Thirdly, January has stirred up quite a mess of poetry. The poets from PoetrIE and the CSUSB MFA program have joined me in writing a poem a day for this entire month. I can only imagine what the 30th will look like. All of those pages spread out across everyone’s floors. Beards will be grown, chairs will have ass-imprints. It’s fantastic, really.
Well, that’s about as much as I can put into one post without feeling like I’ve wasted way too much of your time.
Happy New Year!
